The Client
GeoDelft Environmental Limited – an environmental
consultancy specialising in the investigation and assessment of
contaminated land and water, environmental risk management, asbestos
consultancy and groundwater remediation.
Specialist developer and user of IT systems.
No. of staff: 50
Client’s Issues
Prior to the project the Client had a website, no enquiries for the
company’s services and no interest in the company’s services had ever
been generated as a result of the website.
The Client’s business objectives, targets and strategies are
defined annually as part of the company’s management approach in
document entitled the Business Development Plan.
This plan has set significant targets for the development of new
business in terms of new clients and increasing penetration into
developing market areas, e.g., asbestos consultancy, the development and
management of environmental risk management databases for clients.
The client considered that there was considerable potential to attract
new clients and strengthen the company’s presence in the market by
developing a website, indexed highly by the search engines against
appropriate keyword phrases and presenting a professional image and an
effective presentation of the company’s services on the internet.
The lack of such a website was beginning to be considered by the
client to be a serious deficiency and a potentially significant lost
opportunity in terms of marketing the company’s services.
Consultants Project Team
Team leader – Gerald Fowler –specialist in website design and
search engine optimisation , see c.v. attached in Section 16 of this bid.
Supported by consultancy administrative and technical support
staff.
Approach to the Problem
The team leader reviewed with the client’s directors the company’s
existing presence on the web, and that of key competitors, against the
keywords the company considered potential clients might use.
The team leader reviewed the company’s marketing objectives with
the directors to reach agreement on specific priorities and objectives for
the website. It became
apparent from this detailed review that the company was offering a range
of separate services with different, although potentially overlapping
markets. The team leader
developed a detailed proposal to develop the necessary presence on the web
and agreed this with the client’s directors.
This approach involved the development of six specialist optimised
websites addressing the six highest priorities of the company’s
marketing strategy and the redevelopment of the existing “letterhead”
website. This approach was
agreed with the client as it offered the potential for maximising the
company’s presence on the website in six specialist areas and allowed
flexibility in response to changes in requirements and allowed the
“letterhead” website to be updated by the client without the
constraint imposed by optimised design.
The team leader’s proposal also included the provision of
training to company staff to allow them to readily update the
“letterhead” site and the provision of on-going review of website
performance and adjustment to designs.
Results and Client Benefits
Before the development of the optimised website the company had no
identified new business or enquiries or interest expressed in the company
as a result of its website.
The optimised website are now indexed highly on the major search
engines/directories against the agreed keyword phrases.
Over the first two months since indexing the search engines/directories
the websites have produced:
A key factor in the above results is that over 95% of the enquiries
received and the type of potential clients contacting the company relate
specifically to the type of services and the type of clients that the
company’s marketing strategy had identified to be required.
Terms of Appointment
Formal terms of appointment were agreed with the
client and with Business Link Cheshire and Warrington under the Developing
World Class Capability project. The
terms of references detailed the consultant’s role in defining briefs
and objectives for each website, development and approval of the website
design, optimisation against search engine algorithms, submission of the
website. Ongoing review of
performance and fine tuning and adjustment of design.
Monitoring of the level of interest created, number and value of
enquiries and new business has been linked with the company’s existing
marketing procedures.
Programme and Budget
The
work has been completed to the programme and budget agreed.
